Middle Township Police continue to investigate the death of a local woman over the weekend. Here is the narrative from the Middle Township Police Department:
On Saturday July 31, 2010, at approximately 7:55 PM, Middle Township police communications received a “911” call for medical assistance at a Mimosa Drive dwelling, in Rio Grande. Rio Grande Rescue Squad, Medics, and Patrolman Tracey Super, responded to the scene.
Upon their arrival, first responders found the victim, Rina Mercado, fading in an out of consciousness, and then went into cardiac arrest. Medics immediately began life-saving measures, as the Rio Grande Rescue Squad transported Mercado to the emergency room of Cape Regional Medical Center.
Once at the hospital, revival efforts continued until the victim was pronounced dead, at approximately 9 PM. The victim’s family was notified and responded to the hospital. Mercado was living in Wildwood recently, but is from Middle Township.
This case remains open, and is being followed up by the Cape May County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Major Crimes Unit, of Middle Township Police Department.
