Both Middle Township Girls and Boys basketball teams advanced beyond the first round of the C.A.L. basketball tournament Monday night. The Middle girls beat Cedar Creek 57-41, while the Middle boys won a close game over Holy Spirit 42-40. The Lady Panthers never trailed in the game and were led by junior Bridget Ruskey, who scored 13 of her team-high 18 points in the second half. The second-seeded Panthers (21-3) will play sixth-seeded Wildwood Catholic (20-4) at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals. In the boys game, senior Tim Toney scored 26 points for the Panthers, including two free throws with 3.4 seconds left in the game to seal the victory. The Panthers (18-5) will play St. Augustine (23-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
