Federal corruption charges have been handed down to U.S. Senator Robert Menendez. He faces a 14 count indictment, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. Also indicted was Dr. Salomon Melgen, a West Palm Beach, Fla., ophthalmologist. He is a friend and campaign donor of Menenedez. Menendez has been one of the more powerful members of the U.S. Senate and these charges bring into question how long Menendez can hold onto his seat. Menendez spoke at a press conference on Wednesday night and addressed the charges. He said he was “outraged” and planned to remain in office while he fights the charges.
