A bill that would stop unsolicited text messages found approval in the full Senate. The two bills sponsored by Senator Jeff Van Drew would prohibit unsolicited and unwelcome text messaging advertisements and to outlaw unsolicited checks that are often used in scams. “Unsolicited text messaging ads are a nuisance, but they can also result in costly fees for consumers,” said Senator Van Drew (D-Cape May, Cumberland, Atlantic). “This bill will prohibit companies from sending these ads if it would affect a consumer’s bill or the allotted cell minutes or text messages in their plan. This is a common sense measure that is solely about protecting the consumer.”
