In the wake of recent after-hours rescues, the Mayors of North Wildwood, Wildwood and Wildwood Crest are urging beachgoers to observe the rules and regulations of the beach before accessing the water, and to never swim when lifeguards are off duty. Last weekend there were two major rescues that occurred while the lifeguards were off-duty in the Wildwoods – 6 victims were rescued at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Saturday in North Wildwood, and 3 victims were rescued at approximately 7:08 p.m. on Sunday in Wildwood. Unfortunately, one of the victims from the rescue in Wildwood died as a result of trauma suffered in the surf.
