Matt Szczur is expected to make his return to the big leagues tonight. Brian Cunniff reports in Shore News Today that Szczur was pulled from Triple A Iowa’s game in the eighth inning last night. The move came after Chicago Cubs outfielder Chris Denorfia injured his hamstring during last night’s game in St. Louis. The Chicago Tribune reported that Denorfia will be placed on the 15-day disabled list and that Szczur will most likely be called up as his replacement.
Szczur, a graduate of Lower Cape May Regional H.S., started this season on the Cubs roster and was optioned to Triple A Iowa on April 18th.
