Bridgeton police are investigating a shooting and attempted robbery that occurred in the city Monday morning at about 11:30am in an Irving Avenue alleyway. The victim was Jacobo Alberto-Cruz, age 53, who suffered gunshot wounds to the torso and hand. He was reportedly flown to Christiana Hospital in Delaware for treatment. Capt. Michael Gaimari said that Alberto-Cruz encountered a black male wearing a hooded sweatshirt riding a bicycle in the same alley where he was walking. The male subject attempted to rob him and shots were fired during a brief struggle. No arrests have been made as police continue to investigate, including a review of surveillance videos from the adjacent Bridgeton Commons residential complex.
