A Newark man, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to aggravated manslaughter for fatally stabbing an employee at the Irish Pub in Atlantic City, and seriously injuring another employee in 2009, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel announced.
On March 21, 2009, Luis Martinez, now 28, killed Richard Rivera, 27, of Atlantic City. Rivera died of a stab wound to the heart sustained when he and Richard Kutch, 27, of Atlantic City, attempted to break up a fight inside the bar. Kutch was also injured, suffering a stab wound to the left side of his body. He was hospitalized and released a few days after the incident. Martinez was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged.
On Wednesday, Martinez pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree aggravated assault. According to the terms of the plea agreement, the length of any sentence is a decision left to the Court.
