An arrest was made in the forest fires in Middle Township on Monday. Police say that a report of several fires burning in the wooded area located behind the ACME Plaza in the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township was reported. Upon arrival police located an individual in close proximity to the fires. There were a total of six (6) fires, which were ultimately extinguished. An investigation determined the individual, identified as Carl Peterson 54 years of age from Cape May Court House, was responsible for setting the fires. Peterson was charged with Aggravated Arson and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility on $25,000.00 full cash bail. There were no injuries as a result of the fires.
