MAN ARRESTED ON GUN POSSESSION FOLLOWING FIGHT

A fight broke out at the Las Palmas Bar at 90 Cohansey St. at approximately 1:00 AM Sunday morning and a weapon possession arrest took place after. Officers observed a handgun to the vehicle’s center console when the operator, identified as Robert Bessix, 33, of 5 Barend Rd., in Millville, attempted to obtain the vehicle’s paperwork. Police said the suspect complied with officers’ orders to place his hands on the steering wheel of the vehicle and the weapon, described as a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, was retrieved and the suspect removed from the vehicle and placed into custody. Bessix is charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
