On Sunday evening at the Isle of Palms Motel in Wildwood, a 19 year-old man pretended to set himself on fire inside an elevator as prank for social media. Wildwood Police received multiple 911 calls around 8:30 p.m. that a man in an elevator with eight other people, had poured gasoline onto his body and was attempting to ignite the liquid with a lighter. Austin Gaile from New York City, was actually recording a prank to post online, as the liquid was not gasoline, but water. The occupants of the closed elevator car, including 2 three-year-old children, believed that Gaile’s prank was real and all felt that their lives were in danger. Gaile was arrested on multiple charges, including possession of pot and drug paraphernalia, and placed in the Cape May County Jail on $90,000 full cash bail.
