Avalon Police say a drunk driver caused a major accident that shut down Avalon Blvd. for a period of time over the Memorial Day Weekend. Clarence E. Pike IV, 31, of Villas, vehicle was traveling eastbound on Avalon Boulevard when it left the roadway, crossed the westbound lanes, and struck a utility pole head on. A seven year old boy was also a passenger in the vehicle. Pike was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House, NJ while the juvenile was airlifted to Cooper Hospital. Both were reported to be in stable condition. He was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2nd degree crime), Aggravated Assault by Auto Resulting in Bodily Injury (3rd degree crime), Failure to Provide Health and Safety to the Public (4th degree crime), Driving While Intoxicated, and several other motor vehicle violations.
