Lower Township Council presented Parks and Recreation Department employee Judy Gillis with a certificate of recognition and a cake at a Sept. 16 council meeting. On July 14, Gillis was cleaning the beach at Douglass Park when she saw a man fishing on the jetty appear to be losing consciousness. She called 9-1-1 and stayed with the man. Mayor Michael Beck said due to Judy’s “brave and courageous efforts,” the man is doing well. A resident who witnessed the incident described Gillis as “an inspiration and a great citizen of Lower Township.” Township Council recognized Gillis for going above and beyond the call of duty.
