Lower Township Council took the first step at a Jan. 23 meeting to designate the county airport as an area in need of rehabilitation. The township’s planning board also passed a resolution recommending the area be deemed in need of rehabilitation and subject to five-year tax abatement. Council will consult with the township’s tax collector and solicitor, examining governing laws and options. The resolution will be sent to the state Department of Community Affairs which has 30 days to review the proposal. Following that council could pass an ordinance creating the tax abatement
