Lower Township Council has given its support for Wildwood Water Utility’s proposal to build a water tower in Diamond Beach to increase water pressure to aid in fighting fires. At an Oct. 7 meeting, former Lower Township Third Ward Councilman Glenn Douglass told council there was a “dire need” in Diamond Beach for an additional water tower. “The fire companies have noted they have low pressure whenever they have to draw from hydrants,” he said. Douglass said the water tower would also allow looping which would avoid dead ends in the water system for residents. According to Gary Ziegler, executive director of Wildwood Water Utility, construction would begin in about two years following all necessary approvals from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
