A man who was being loud at an area campground attacked the responding police officer. Lower Township Police say that Michael Callahan punched the officer multiple times before being handcuffed. While Callahan was being escorted to the police vehicle, another man became physical with one of the officers who arrived on the scene. Eventually, Carlos E. Leon, 21, of Sayerville, was physically restrained.
Callahan and Leon were then transported to Lower Township Police Department for processing where Michael Callahan was charged with one (1) count of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct.
Carlos Leon was charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Assault on Police Officers, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Justice.
Leon was subsequently lodged in the Cape May County Jail on Default of $10,000 cash bail set by Lower Township Municipal Court Judge David DeWeese.
