New Jersey environmental officials now believe that low oxygen levels in the water caused a fish kill that resulted in fish washing ashore in North Wildwood over the weekend. State experts believe that the low oxygen levels resulted in menhaden to wash up on beaches near Hereford Inlet on Saturday. City public works crews worked to remove the dead fish from the beach. This was the third fish kill locally this summer. The first took place in July in Cape May Point; the second, along the bayside beaches on the Delaware Bay.
