A 21-year member of the Lower Township Police Department has officially retired. Sgt. Ernest Macomber was honored for his years of service this week. Macomber is a lifelong resident of the township. He served in the US Air National Guard 177 Fighter Interceptor Group- Atlantic City obtaining the rank of senior airman. In 1979, he joined the Army obtaining the rank of corporal and was assigned as a tank commander. Macomber joined the Lower Township Police Department in 1993 and was assigned to a patrol squad as well as the tactical squad. In 1999, Macomber received the first, officer of the year award. Macomber was promoted to corporal and then to sergeant in 2011. In 2012, Macomber was assigned to the position of detective sergeant and worked in the detective bureau until his retirement.
