A budget workshop yielded bad news in Middle Township. Committeeman Dan Lockwood said that a few revenue items came in lower than initially projected and the costs associated with the snowstorm are higher than expected. Lockwood said the township is already near the cap and will not be able to afford to raise taxes anymore. Additional cuts are going to have to be made. He told Coastal Broadcasting it is too premature to say if furloughs or layoffs could be possible, but he said furloughs are not as profitable for townships as people think. The committee is going to have to reevaluate the budget before final adoption. The committee is already asking for a 2.8-cent increase to the budget.
