The Republican Party had a lot of momentum with the victory of Committeeman Dan Lockwood last year, but that has all gone away. No Republican’s filed to run against Mayor Susan DeLanzo in this November’s election. Lockwood says he is “disappointed” that no one filed to run against DeLanzo in the upcoming election. He said he thinks candidates were discouraged to run because of how popular DeLanzo is in the township.
There have been rumors circulating that Deputy Mayor Nate Doughty would not run again next year after he stepped down from the mayor’s role. Doughty confirmed to Coastal Broadcasting that he is planning to run in next year’s election.
DeLanzo told Coastal Broadcasting she thinks the lack of a third-party candidate is the reason she believes no Republican decided to run. Burgess Hamer ran an an independent in last year’s election and took in 21 percent of the vote.
