A Cape May County corrections officer was announced as the best in the state. Sheriff Gary Schaffer announced that Officer Kourtney Perry was awarded Corrections Officer of the Year at the annual New Jersey Wardens Association Conference held in Atlantic County last week.
Corrections Officer Kourtney Perry was hired as a Corrections Officer on April 3, 2006 by the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office. In November of 2010, Perry was assigned as the Internal Affairs Investigator for the Cape May County Correctional Center. Perry is responsible for all investigations within the institution and assists in background investigations for all new Corrections Officers.
In February of 2011, Corrections Officer Perry received national recognition as a result of her diligent investigation concerning the smuggling of Suboxone into the institution through coloring book pages. This far reaching investigation ultimately resulted in five arrests.
