A local business on the Washington Street Mall in Cape May lost it’s appeal to remain open. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Stewart’s Root Beer has it’s mercantile license revoked this summer due to code violations. The restaurant was licensed for a total of 48 seats, but code enforcement officials found more that double that amount in use. Cape May City Council voted unanimously on Monday to deny Stewart’s appeal, forcing them to close. The restaurant can appeal the decision to Superior Court or apply for additional seating.
