U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) today announced that three South Jersey fire departments will share $308,732 in federal funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. More than $23 million has been awarded locally to 116 organizations in the 2nd District since the program began in 2001.
“The new year starts off well for first responders in South Jersey,” said LoBiondo, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus. “Particularly during these challenging economic times and sustained budgetary concerns, federal support for our first responders is critical. I know the fire departments in Alloway, Ventnor City and Ocean City will use this funding wisely to protect their communities and I will continue to support critical programs like AFG.”
The Ocean City Fire Department received their fifth AFG award, totaling $112,860. According to Fire Chief Joseph Foglio, today’s funding will help in the purchase of turnout gear for the firefighters. “We appreciate all of Congressman LoBiondo’s support,” he said. Previous awards for the Ocean City Fire Department were $126,937 (2002), $114,486 (2003), $91,899 (2007) and $84,213 (2008).
