Senator Jim Whelan is sponsoring a measure to allow early voting in the state. The bill advanced through the State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee. The bill would establish an early voting procedure to allow voters to cast their ballots at designated polling places starting 15 days before the primary election and the General Election, and ending on the Sunday before the election. Whelan noted that a disaster like Hurricane Sandy shows the need to have the flexibility in being able to vote.
