LAWMAKERS TO CONSIDER LOCAL MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES

Local towns in New Jersey may be allowed to set their own higher minimum wages under a new bill being discussed Thursday in Trenton.  Weather permitting, the Assembly Labor Committee is scheduled to take up a bill that would allow local communities to set a higher minimum wage than the state’s lowest wage, currently at $8.38 an hour.  The bill is opposed by virtually every business group.
