The Christmas weekend blizzard dumped up to 32 inches of snow in some parts of the state, and the roads were not properly plowed. The second statement is the belief of many lawmakers. A hearing was held on the matter in Trenton on Monday. Transportation head Jim Simpson defended the state’s handling of the situation, saying that the state workers did a good job and that the storm was a once in a 100 years type event. A number of improvements are still be rolled out, including adding contractors to help with the snow removal, as a way to do better in the future.
