The Republicans may have a candidate in Middle Township after all. The Cape May County Clerk’s Office confirms that Helen McCaffrey is challenging that she did not have enough votes to appear on the ballot in November. Rule is in Middle Township that a write-in candidate would have to have 49 votes to win the party nomination. McCaffrey had 43 votes, with two partials, and her name appears on other ballots, but in different places throughout those ballots. A conference call will be held at the clerk’s office at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday with Superior Court Judge Valerie Armstrong. A final decision is expected at that time.
