A joint statement has been released regarding the charges of official misconduct against Wildwood Mayor Gary DeMarzo. Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and the state’s attorney general’s office released the following statement:
“We presented this case to the Division of Criminal Justice in the Attorney General’s Office and we jointly determined that these were the appropriate charges to allege for these criminal activities. Mayor DeMarzo as a commissioner knowingly used public funds belonging to the City of Wildwood to pay personal legal expenses an other related expenses for his lawsuit against the city in the amount greater than $200.”
The crime becomes a second-degree once it goes over $200.
