New Jersey now has four major school districts under its control. Governor Chris Christie held a press conference this morning to announce that the state has taken control of the Camden School District. Christie calls the problems with the Camden district “chronic and severe” and says the Camden district ranks near the bottom of many achievement rankings. New Jersey Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf was more critical of the problems facing the Camden district, calling it a “human catastrophe”. The state will bring in its own managers to operate the Camden School District.
