HURRICANE JOAQUIN UPGRADED TO CATEGORY 4 STORM

The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Joaquin is now a category four hurricane. Joaquin is moving at about 6 mph in a southwestward or westward motion, which is expected to continue through tonight. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 mph with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is possible in the next 24 hours, but the storm isn’t expected to be nearly this strong by the time it would be near New Jersey.
