A state council that regulates the hunting of black bears in northern New Jersey has decided to expand the program. The new proposal offered by the council calls for a geographical expansion of the hunt for most of northern New Jersey, and also for the use of bows and arrows. New Jersey holds a black bear hunt every year to help thin out the heard. There are nearly 4,000 black bears in North Jersey, with the population going up even after hunts were authorized five years ago.
