The story everyone was talking about during the flooding was the home that slid into the Grassy Sound Channel on Friday night. The reporting party stated the home was vacant and had been settling and falling into the channel for years. The New Jersey State Police Marine Bureau and the United States Coast Guard were immediately notified. Officers from Middle Township Police Department responded along with Troopers from NJSP Marine Bureau. When the Officers arrived on scene they were faced with dangerous conditions with winds gusting up to 60 mph. Officers were able to make contact with residents at a neighboring house. They were advised that the house was indeed vacant, and did not have any utilities connected. A determination was made that there was not a fire hazard, and due to the conditions an assessment would be done in the morning. Efforts are going to be made by officials to ensure that the pieces of the home are cleaned out of the channel as much as possible to avoid creating additional hazards.
