HORSE WITH ENCEPHALITIS EUTHANIZED IN C.M.C.

Cape May County health officials reported that a 7 year-old horse with Eastern Equine Encephalitis had to be euthanized. The gelding was rescued two weeks before any symptoms of EEE appeared. The disease is transmitted by infected mosquitoes and attacks the horse’s brain and central nervous system. Last year New Jersey had six reported cases of EEE between June and October.
