A teenager was struck and killed in a hit and run early this morning while riding his bicycle in Egg Harbor Township. The alleged driver of the motor vehicle was charged with motor vehicle summonses pending further investigation, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel stated.
At 2:01 a.m. on Monday morning Jacob Broschard, 16, of the 1300 block of Old Zion Road in Egg Harbor Township, and two other teenagers were riding their bicycles from Royal Avenue in Egg Harbor Township onto Jerome Avenue toward Robert Best Road when a vehicle allegedly driven by William Michael Simkins, 31, of 5 Royal Avenue in Egg Harbor Township, struck and killed Broschard while he was on Jerome Avenue. It is further alleged that Simkins continued across Robert Best Road. Two hours later Egg Harbor Township Police arrested Simkins at the police department and charged him with motor vehicle violations including reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report a motor vehicle accident. Simkins was released, Prosecutor Housel stated.
“Although only motor vehicle summonses were issued on Monday, this is an ongoing criminal investigation,” Prosecutor Housel said.
