The National Weather Service has posted a High Surf Advisory for local beaches due to Hurricane Igor, which will pass by New Jersey far out into the Atlantic Ocean on Monday. The advisory is in effect until Monday at midnight, and the service predicts a high risk of rip currents through Monday evening as well. Long period swells were building up from the south through the day on Sunday, producing waves of four to eight feet. Surf heights are expected to exceed ten feet by Monday afternoon. Rip currents are very likely along the beaches, especially near jetties, piers, and sandbars.
