Cape May County has a new freeholder. Marie Hayes was sworn in during a ceremony on Friday. Hayes outpolled Lower Township’s Stig Blomkvest 123-89 during a committee vote on Wednesday. The Ocean City native will serve on the board until December 31st. She takes over the position that was held by Sue Sheppard, who is the new surrogate of Cape May County. Hayes will run on the same ticket as Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton this year.
