The Cape May County Library Commission will break ground for the new Sea Isle City Library on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. The Sea Isle City Branch of the County Library System, located on the open site at 4800 Central Avenue, is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating County facility to be built. The new two story facility will be 13,583 square feet with two exterior decks totaling 1,380 square feet. The building will consist of large and small meeting rooms to house a variety of library programs and community functions and provide wireless internet for patrons. The building will also be home to the Sea Isle City Historical Library.
The LEED Silver rated facility will have a roof area over the first floor meeting room designed to handle 198 solar panels and high efficiency mechanical and lighting systems. Utilities will be metered to analyze usage and a geothermal system is being installed. Also, recycled building materials, LED site lighting, low water use fixtures, and native plants will be part of this new LEED facility. Additionally, all materials will be purchased from within 500 miles of the site to promote local growth.
