New Jersey Governor Chris Christie further explained his reasons for rejecting a deal that his state education commission cut with a powerful teachers’ union. Christie says the compromise agreement worked out by Bret Schundler with the union was no good because the state would have ‘caved in’ to the union. Christie has been publicly critical of Schundler’s handling of the deal, and he flat out rejected it. Christie told the Star Ledger that Schundler was not allowed to negotiate away key provisions of the governor’s plan.
