A new proposal has been put on the table by Gov. Chris Christie that would vastly change how public workers get benefits. Christie presented a plan during a town hall meeting that would make public employees pay one-third of whatever their benefits cost are. Currently, employees only pay 1.5 percent of their salary, no matter what plan they are on. He said the current system is unsustainable for the state and employees need to be more active in paying into what they earn.
