The pain at the pump has eased towards the end of the year, but it is still much worse than last year. Motorists are paying about 30 cents more per gallon versus the same time period last year. The current local average for a gallon of gas is $3.44, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. Prices are expected to continue to drop for the rest of December. New Jersey prices remain above that of the national average, which is $3.37. Usually, the state is below the national average because we have one of the lowest gas taxes.
