Meetings of the Pinelands Commission are not usually well attended. However, public outcry over a proposed 21-mile gas pipeline brought roughly 80 residents out to the meeting on Wednesday. Plans call for the gas pipeline to run from Maurice River Township to the B.L. England power plant in Beesley’s Point, to facilitate the plant’s conversion from coal to natural gas. Opponents of the pipeline say it does not meet Pinelands regulations for building in restricted forest management areas. Two other pipeline routes have been considered and rejected by South Jersey Gas due to other environmental issues.
