FREEHOLDERS PITCHED IDEA FOR NEW COUNTY JAIL

County freeholders were pitched the concept of a new county jail during Tuesday’s freeholder meeting.  County Sheriff Gary Schaffer informed the board the new jail would cost nearly $40 million to build but it would meet the county’s needs for the next half century. Currently there are three prisoners to a cell in some cases and the county jail has been out of compliance for years.  Construction on the new jail is expected to begin this year.
