A former powerful figure in the New Jersey republican party has died at the age of 88. Former North Jersey Senator Ray Bateman passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. Bateman ran for governor once in the Garden State; his son, Kip Bateman, now holds the Senate seat his father used to occupy.
