The New Jersey Division of Family Development announced that the number of families using food stamps in Atlantic County rose by almost 12 percent over last year. More needy households are taking advantage of the NJ SNAP program, as multiple casino closings affected the area over the past year. According to the report, more than one-third of Atlantic County’s 275,000 residents are on some type of assistance, including 23,000 households on food stamps.
