Atlantic County residents who experienced extreme material losses during Hurricane Irene may be eligible to receive temporary food assistance through the disaster-related Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, (D-SNAP). Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, September 20 at locations throughout the county. The complete schedule is available at www.aclink.org
Individuals and families currently NOT receiving SNAP benefits and whose storm-related expenses include damages beyond the loss of food due to power outages may be eligible. The application is available at: www.nj.gov/humanservices/dfd/programs/foodstamps/irene_snap_app.pdf However, residents can not apply online, but can print it out and complete it before arriving at the application location of their choice.
Individuals and families who are receiving SNAP benefits may be eligible for a disaster supplement based upon a federal determination of areas that lost power for over four consecutive hours. If they are eligible, the benefit will be automatically deposited onto their SNAP/Food Stamp Families First Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
Current SNAP recipients do not need to take any action to receive a D-SNAP benefit.
