FIRST MAJOR BEACH RESCUE OF THE YEAR IN NEW JERSEY

The first major swimming rescue of the year has been made before the holiday weekend by lifeguards in Seaside Heights who were not even on duty at the time of the rescue.  Lifeguards jumped into action when three swimmers were caught in a rip current on Wednesday and taken about 300 yards from shore.  Lifeguards in Seaside Heights and many other communities are not on duty until Friday.
