The battle over whether or not to build a natural gas pipeline through the Pinelands region of South Jersey will be decided on Friday. The Pinelands Commission is scheduled to meet and cast a final vote on a plan that would extend a natural gas pipeline through the Pinelands to the B.L. England generating plant in Upper Township. Supporters of the project say it will be safer for the environment since the plant would burn gas, and not coal. The plan has been widely criticized by environmentalists and by former governors.
