One somber aspect of this year’s Miss New Jersey competition will be the absence of former titleholder Cara McCollum, who was killed in February in a single vehicle crash on Route 55. Pageant organizers will honor her memory with the awarding of the first Cara McCollum Memorial scholarship. The award will be based on essays by contestants describing how they can have a lasting, positive impact.
