So much for the argument in favor of keeping the Beesley’s Point Bridge open. Cape May County Freeholders voted Tuesday evening in favor of a bond ordinance worth over $1 million that will result in the drawbridge section being removed from the Beesley’s Point Bridge. County officials had been in favor of saving the bridge to provide a link to Atlantic County along Route 9. However that idea was scuttled by high repair costs associated with the bridge. The bridge has been closed to vehicles for the past seven years. It’s very likely the remaining portion of the Beesley’s Point Bridge will eventually come down as well.
