A local man was one of 28 defendants charges with child porn possession. Juan Carlos Alvarez was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the possession. The state’s attorney general’s office announced he pleaded guilty on Aug. 4 to second-degree distribution of child pornography and third-degree possession of more than 100 files of child pornography and was just sentenced for those crimes. He faces 2 1/2 years of parole ineligibility. Alvarez will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
